How to Design the Perfect AI Voice
Elocute's voice design feature lets you create custom AI voices from text descriptions. Here's how to get the best results.
The Formula
For the most natural-sounding results, follow this pattern in your voice description:
A [age] [gender] with a [accent] accent. [Additional characteristics like tone, pace, emotion.]
For example:
- “A young woman with an American accent. Warm, friendly, and conversational.”
- “A middle-aged man with a British accent. Authoritative and calm, like a news presenter.”
- “An elderly man with an Australian accent. Gentle and grandfatherly.”
Best Accents
Voice design works best with American, British, and Australian English accents. These produce the most consistent and natural results. Other accents like Indian English can work but may be less consistent.
Keep It Simple
Voice design responds best to clear, concise descriptions. You don't need to write a novel — a couple of sentences is usually enough. Focus on the key characteristics: accent, age range, gender, and overall tone.
Avoid overly specific or contradictory instructions like:
- “Sounds exactly like Morgan Freeman” (Elocute creates original voices, not imitations)
- “Happy but also sad” (contradictory emotions produce unpredictable results)
- Very long, multi-paragraph descriptions (keep it to 1-3 sentences)
Be Descriptive About Tone
Words that describe how the voice feels work well:
- Warm — friendly, approachable
- Authoritative — confident, commanding
- Gentle — soft, soothing
- Energetic — upbeat, enthusiastic
- Professional — clear, measured
